Dali International Hotel locates on the west side of the Longshan Development administrative center, in Yunnan Dali. A total 51.7 acres is to be built for a super five-star hotel. The main functions of the hotel are tourism, business and meeting reception with a total floor area of 48,600 square meters. Cooperating with internationally renowned hotel Management Company, we plan the complex functions as a whole to meet the international five-star hotel standards. We seek to harmonize the building to surrounding environment, and reflect the characteristics of mountain region in architectural design. The main building fully extends horizontally through the north side of the site, minimizing the height to weaken too much sense of body volume. We divide the vertical facades into subsections. The north facade of the annex keeps the same gradient with the site slope protection. We select the stone locally produced as facade materials to maintain the natural feel of the original. Local traditional yard arrangement modality in dwellings, “three yards with one zhaobi” is used as the prototype of space pattern in the project. Each hotel room district has a U-shape atrium as public space, with rooms around it. These atriums are designed in well-know themes: wind, flower and snow in Dali, showing strong regional characteristics. Additionally, we use the latest eco-design techniques, including natural ventilation, local materials and geothermal resources, to achieve energy saving and environmental protection.
